Does your organisation use Digipoort with a PKIoverheid certificate, or do you develop software for Digipoort? If so, make sure you prepare early for the transition to G4 certificates. The current G1 Private and G3 certificates will expire no later than 12 November 2028. Digipoort is expected to support G4 certificates from the end of the first quarter of 2027.

What do you need to do?

Do you develop software for Digipoort?

  • Check whether your software and technical environment are compatible with G4 certificates.
  • Check operating systems, frameworks, libraries, runtime versions and server components.
  • Ensure that the TLS implementation supports RSASSA-PSS (TLS 1.2 with RSASSA-PSS or TLS 1.3).
  • Plan any required updates and testing well in advance.

Does your organisation use software for Digipoort?

If your organisation uses its own PKIoverheid certificate for Digipoort, you will need to prepare for the transition.

  • Ask your software supplier whether the application supports G4 certificates.
  • Determine when you need to obtain a G4 certificate and plan its procurement.
  • Check whether your IT environment is compatible with G4 certificates. Outdated servers or middleware may prevent G4 certificates from working.
  • Plan any required changes and testing in well in advance.

What is changing?

The way Digipoort works will remain the same. Only the security of the connection will change. Digipoort does not currently support G4 certificates and is expected to do so from the end of the first quarter of 2027.

The current G1 Private and G3 certificates will expire no later than 12 November 2028. Organisations must switch to G4 certificates before that date in order to continue using Digipoort.

Why start now?

PKIoverheid is introducing G4 certificates to ensure that security remains future-proof. G4 certificates use more modern cryptography and align with international security standards.

For some systems, the transition involves more than simply replacing a certificate. Older software or infrastructure in particular may require technical changes. By assessing your technical situation now, you can avoid time pressure when the current certificates expires.
