Removal of DigiNotar from Adobe Reader

12 september 2011 | English

Adobe announced1 that on 13 September 2011 the company DigiNotar will be removed from the Adobe Reader application due to a security incident at DigiNotar.

Adobe Reader is an application for reading PDF files. PDF files can be signed digitally with an electronic signature. As a direct consequence of the removal, Adobe Reader (by using the AATL) will show a warning for all documents signed digitally by a party (for instance a notary) certified by DigiNotar. The warning concerns the trustworthiness of the document. Because of the security incident, the possibility now also exists that documents are signed with a false signature.
